What is Space Station 13?

Space Station 13 is a paranoia-laden round-based roleplaying game set against the backdrop of a nonsensical, metal death trap masquerading as a space station, with charming spritework designed to represent the sci-fi setting and its dangerous undertones. Have fun, and survive!

Roleplay Guidelines

Antagonist Guidelines

  1. You are unbound from rules regarding grief, powergaming and escalation. However, you are still expected to follow the second rule:
  2. Your goal is to make the round more interesting. Do your best to create a story and build tension - don't just kill random people purely because you're an antag.
  3. Antagonists should never end the round prematurely. Massive round-ending grief should NEVER be done before the 20-minute mark.
  4. Antagonists should never lengthen the round needlessly. Recalling the shuttle when a significant portion of the crew is dead/wants to leave is NOT good.
  5. If you are a team antagonist, you are expected to contribute towards your objectives. Lone antagonists (like Traitors and Changelings) aren't required to try and complete their objectives.

Administrator Guidelines

  1. Don't break the game and Discord rules! Breaking the rules makes you look like an idiot and a hypocrite, so don't do it.
  2. Respect the privacy of players. Do not share any personal information about other users, including (but not limited to!) IP addresses and computer IDs.
  3. Don't cheat. If you play in a round, play fair, and don't abuse your powers. In addition, you are required to deadmin if you play as any Security, Command or AI roles.
  4. Never apply underage bans on a suspicion. Underage bans require these checks before being applied:
    • Is the information from a reputable source? The ONLY reputable sources are a) messages sent in an official RobustStation place, b) similar bans from another, reputable community, c) them admitting themselves.
    • Is the information ethically sourced? Admins should NEVER actively search for a player's age outside of asking them. Additionally, information given by a third party is usually not ethically sourced.
    • Has the information been reviewed and approved by at least three admins?

Once ALL of these checks are done, you may permaban the member with the reason "Underage ban, age: [PUT AGE HERE]".

Server Rules

  1. Admins always have the final say. If an admin tells you to stop doing something, stop it.
  2. No sexual content! This is very much a non-negotiable and WILL get you banned.
    • You can still call people dicks/pussies, and make crude Ligma-style jokes. No further than that.
  3. Don't be a jerk. Bigotry is a hard NO and will very quickly get you disappeared. Otherwise, treat each other with respect. If you're not an antagonist, you are expected not to grief. In addition:
    • Space Racism is still racism. You aren't funny. Just don't.
    • Metagrudging (getting back at someone who wronged you in an earlier round) is a dick move and will lead to punishment.
    • Repeatedly breaking into places to steal resources you don't normally have access to will lead to a ban.
    • If someone breaks into your department and refuses to leave when asked, feel free to defend your workplace. No escalation required.
  4. No metagaming. Metagaming is where someone uses OOC means to gain information about a current round. This is mainly targeted at using outside communication to get that information (metacomms).
    • Characters are allowed to keep persistent friendships and relationships with other characters, as long as it's not to team up together for little IC reason.
  5. Names should be decent. Naming yourself after controversial figures, politically relevant people, or horrible people is not okay. Obviously, names should also follow the rules.

In addition, names must be capitalized properly (Firstname-Lastname, Verbs-the-Noun, etc.)

  6. You must roleplay. You are expected to play a character and make some effort into developing said character.
    • Leetspeak, emojis, and emoticons should not be used when speaking. Of course, you can still put them in PDA messages, paper, etc.
    • When you are revived, you are expected to follow the blackout policy below:
      Revival method Memory
Cloning Everything up to the last five minutes before your death
      Antagonist-related revival No limits
All other revivals (Defib, Strange Reagent, etc.) Anything up to small details of your death, excluding the identity of the murderer
  7. Security & Command are held to a higher standard. Breaking rules as a member of either department will lead to harder and longer punishments. In addition, you must follow Space Law.
  8. Escalation is required. Members of either department are held to a higher standard in regards to the rules.
    • Don't escalate situations needlessly. Not everything requires a fight to the death.
    • If your opponent ends up in critical condition, you should try to seek medical attention for them. This is obviously exempt for certain antagonists.
    • Antagonistic and pest ghost roles do not require escalation. Crew-aligned ghost roles like drones & pets will require it.
    • Antagonists are not expected to escalate. Read the Antagonist Guidelines below for more info.

The Golden Rule

Don't quote any of this at admins. If you're in a position where you need to defend yourself using this, you've done something wrong.

This is a game that allows a lot of potential for great things to happen, and naturally the rules restrict a lot of that to ensure the minority don't ruin every round for everyone else. If you push the limits in the pursuit of something interesting for reasons other than your own personal entertainment, breaking the rules may be excused to allow for that freedom. This will always be at the admin's discretion of course, but if you want a large amount of freedom to make great things happen, you'll have to take on the responsibility for them. You won't be faulted if they go wrong in ways beyond your control, but this is a difficult line to tread so use it well. It's almost always better to consult an admin on this as they are more equipped to taking on that responsibility.

Everyone has a license to grief to a very limited extent. You can likely get away with borderline antagonistic behaviour (Never random murder, but stealing from the brig and triggering a manhunt, for example) occasionally, but it's when this becomes a frequent occurrence that people get frustrated and admins start to get involved.

Admins may handwave even severely antagonistic or rulebreaking behaviour if they believe it was ultimately beneficial, hilarious or awesome to the round.
